Organized and written by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, High School English Textbooks (Shanghai Foreign Language Education Publishing Press Edition) is designed according to the requirements of the English Language Curriculum Standards for General Senior Secondary Schools (2017 Edition), with its objectives, themes, and unit structure comprehensively aligned with and serving the core literacy of the English discipline as proposed in the new curriculum standards. Researchers from the Shanghai English Education and Teaching Research Base and dozens of foreign language teaching researchers and front-line backbone teachers from Shanghai and across the country participated in the preparation of the textbook. The new textbook consists of seven volumes and is accompanied by teacher's books and exercise books. The preparation of the textbook took nearly three years, and many of the editors made arduous efforts. The preparation work was supported by relevant departments of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, leaders of Shanghai International Studies University and famous experts and scholars at home and abroad. In the process of writing, the writing team fully solicited the opinions of university experts, high school English teachers and high school students, took into account the reality of high school English teaching, and carefully polished the textbook and the accompanying books on the basis of repeated trial teaching and testing and feedback from domestic and foreign textbook experts' many reviews and feedbacks.
High School English Textbooks (Shanghai Foreign Language Education Publishing Press Edition) is the first English textbook for high schools published by Shanghai Foreign Languages Education Press that has passed the evaluation of experts organized by the Ministry of Education, and has been listed in the catalog of teaching books for the national curriculum and approved to be promoted and used nationwide. It also marks another achievement of great value made by Shanghai International Studies University in the field of foreign language teaching theory and practice, which will have a positive and far-reaching impact on basic foreign language education in China.
